TreSkinRX EX3 Daily Renewing Exfoliant:
An over-the-counter glycolic acid and vitamin C exfoliant, this product is meant to be used twice daily, along with your regular daily skin care (cleanser, moisturizer, etc.).
Although it's not an acne treatment per se, glycolic acid can help keep your pores clear, so it may be a useful addition to your regular acne treatment routine. (One caveat: Because it's an exfoliant, it's best not used with other strong exfoliating acne treatments. If you're using prescription acne medications, ask your doctor before trying this product.)
TreSkinRX EX3 Daily Renewing Exfoliant can be used alone or as part of the TreSkinRX four-step daily skin-care routine.
Where You Can Buy:
- It's a strong exfoliant that leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth and looking brighter.
- There is no abrasive grit to tear off tops of pimples and further irritate the skin.
- Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid that helps keep pores clear.
- This exfoliant is not an acne treatment, so used on its own it won't clear up acne.
- It's a bit pricey.
- Funky smell takes a while to get used to.
TreSkinRX EX3 Daily Renewing Exfoliant Guide Review:
Glycolic acid has been a big ingredient in the skin-care industry for a long time. Glycolic acid is found in many over-the-counter (OTC) acne treatments and plenty of anti-aging treatments, too. TreSkinRX EX3 Daily Renewing Exfoliant is a glycolic acid product meant to be used daily. It's part of the TreSkinRx product line and is also used in their Clear Skin Program for acne-prone skin.
The product information declares it's one of the strongest OTC glycolic acid products on the market, so I was excited to give it a try.
EX3 definitely looks pretty, with bright blue beads suspended in the creamy yellow base. The beads tricked me into thinking it's a scrub when actually the product doesn't have any gritty quality at all. Instead, the beads dissolved, leaving tiny blue streaks across the skin that quickly disappeared as I massaged the product into the face. It was creamy smooth rather than abrasive. This is a plus if you have inflamed pimples because scrubs can often irritate the skin and do more harm than good.
They weren't kidding when they said this product was strong. I did get a little stinging when I first applied it. But I'm not really complaining because most exfoliating products do sting or burn a bit at first. Plus, it made me feel like it was "really working."
Besides, the stinging lasted only a couple of minutes, and even that stopped after several days of use. But my skin is already accustomed to using glycolic acid. If this is your first experience with alpha hydroxy acids, it may very well be more irritating for you, at least at first.
I have to admit, I am not a fan of the smell. It's not horrible, just . . . weird. Almost a bitter, oily scent. It seems to linger after application. Even a few hours later I was catching the scent. Although I never grew to like the smell, I did become rather accustomed to it.
Surprisingly, I noticed a difference in my skin after just a few days (surprising because most skin-care products don't work that fast.) My skin definitely felt softer and looked brighter within one week. After two weeks, I noticed those tiny comedones smoothed out. I was quite pleased with the results.
This isn't a perfect product for everyone. It's not an acne treatment. Alone, it's not going to clear up acne (except for mild cases, maybe), so you'd have to use it along with an acne treatment product.
If you're already using prescription acne medications, especially ones like Retin-A or isotretinoin, this product is going to be a big no-no. In fact, if you're using any prescription acne treatments, you need to talk to your dermatologist before trying this product.
But if you're looking for a powerful glycolic acid exfoliant to add to your skin-care regimen, this is a great choice. I'd think those with adult acne will especially like this product, both for the skin-smoothing and anti-aging qualities it has. For an at-home glycolic "peel," it's well worth the money.
