While it can be very frustrating to not see results, you might be being too hard on your dermatologist. If you’ve only seen the doctor once, you aren’t giving the treatment plan the dermatologist has devised a chance to work.
Part of the reason acne is so tough to control is because there is no one treatment that works for everyone. So, you are going to have to go through a trial and error period with your dermatologist in order to find a treatment that really works.
Make sure you are giving your treatments time, and using them consistently and correctly. If you’ve been diligent in using your acne treatments without seeing any improvement, by all means let your doctor know. Your dermatologist wants to know how the treatments are working so he/she can reevaluate your treatment plan.
Now, if you aren’t comfortable with this dermatologist, if you don’t like his/her bedside manner or you feel like your concerns are being brushed off, you ought to look for a new doctor. But if the only gripe is the treatment you were prescribed isn’t working, hang in there with this doctor a little longer. Your dermatologist wants to work with you to develop a treatment plan that you’re happy with.
Don’t think of these appointments as a waste of your time. Think of them as getting you one step closer to clearer skin!
