You need a cleanser anyway, so why not choose one containing benzoyl peroxide? Benzoyl peroxide is often the first treatment choice for those with acne. Luckily, you don't have to spend a lot for an effective benzoyl peroxide cleanser. Here are some options you'll find at your local drug store for less than $15.

Clean and Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser

If you're looking for a basic cleanser, this one by Clean and Clear fits the bill. It contains 10% benzoyl peroxide, to help reduce the amount of acne-causing bacteria. Use in place of your regular cleanser once or twice per day.

This is a great cleanser to help reduce oily shine. It can dry your skin, though, so make sure you use an oil-free moisturizer every day.

Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser / Mask

Neutrogena has long been a skin care staple. This cleanser has a clean smell and leaves the skin feeling cool and refreshed. And don't think that because it contains less benzoyl peroxide than other options (3.5%) that it isn't effective.

We also love this product because it pulls double duty as a treatment mask. Just smooth onto the face, let set for no more than five minutes, and rinse well. If you have sensitive skin, you may not want to try this option. It can leave some people with stinging, tomato-red faces. Either way, don't use as a mask more than three times per week.

PanOxyl Bar 5

If you'd rather have a cleansing bar, you may like this one from PanOxyl. You can use it on your face, as well as the chest, back, shoulders, etc. Put in the shower and use in place of regular body soap.

But make sure to use this bar only on acne-prone areas: There's no sense in using it to cleanse your feet! Besides, using this bar on areas without acne will only lead to unnecessary drying of the skin.

The 5% strength is a good choice for those who have more sensitive skin, but it also comes in a 10% bar and a 10% foaming wash.

Oxy Daily Wash

The bold lettering and black packaging will probably appeal to the male population more than any of the other liquid cleansers. It's definitely not "girly" looking. Neither is the scent -- almost like an aftershave product. The guys really seem to like it.

The packaging directions recommend using 2 to 3 times per day, but that might leave you feeling really dry and flaky. You might want to start off using this product just once per day, and slowly work up to twice daily if your skin can handle it. You may also want to try Oxy Face Wash Sensitive, with 5% benzoyl peroxide.

Neaclear Liquid Oxygen Acne Cleanser

This cleanser gives you the look and feel of an expensive brand, for less. It does a great job of removing makeup, and we like that it contains vitamins A, D, C, and E along with benzoyl peroxide.

Neaclear claims the "liquid oxygen" in their cleanser gives you cleaner skin. We're not sure about that, but nevertheless like the way our skin feels after use: fresh, clean, but not stripped.
