- Exceptionally gentle. Even the most sensitive skin types would be able to use this without a problem.
- It's light, easily absorbed, and doesn't leave the skin the slightest bit greasy.
- Oil-free, fragrance-free, and alcohol-free. It won't burn skin that’s already irritated by acne and acne treatments.
- The price -- $10 for a facial moisturizer is a great deal.
- It doesn't contain SPF, so you won't get any sun protection. (But I realize this may actually be a pro for some of you specifically looking for a facial moisturizer without sunscreen.)
Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin Guide Review:
Finding a good moisturizer when you have acne is hard. Add sensitive skin on top of it, and it can seem nearly impossible.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin fits that need. And the fact that I can find it at my grocery store for about $10 is icing on the cake, as far as I'm concerned.
Although it's not specifically made for acne-prone skin, it's definitely a good choice for those of us with breakouts. This moisturizer is oil-free and noncomedogenic, so it won't clog your pores. It also won't leave your skin looking shiny or feeling greasy.
My skin always tends to be a bit sensitive, so a lot of moisturizers burn when I apply them. Not this one. It actually felt very soothing (not something I'm used to with a moisturizer).
I was even happier with how the moisturizer absorbed into my skin, without a trace of oily shine. It felt super light, like I didn't have any moisturizer on at all. Very often light-weight moisturizers just aren't emollient enough for my skin, but this one felt hydrating and left my skin feeling soft and smooth. And, you can wear it under your makeup or acne treatments without worrying that it will feel too heavy or thick.
I'd think this lotion would pair well with ultra-drying acne treatments, like isotretinoin (AKA Accutane) or Retin-A. Because it doesn't contain alcohol, it won't sting or burn already irritated skin, and can help relieve some of that treatment dryness.
But be aware that, unlike many facial moisturizers on the market today, Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Sensitive Skin doesn't contain SPF. For people who are sensitive to sunscreen ingredients, this will be welcome news. But if you're looking for sun protection as well, you'll either have to use a separate facial sunscreen (and who wants to do that?) or else go with a different product during the day. I like to use this moisturizer as a night cream, and use Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Moisturizer with SPF 30 during the day.
Whether you have teen acne or you're an adult with breakouts, this moisturizer will work for anyone. It has no scent and fairly unisex packaging, so both men and women would be content with it.
For a basic, no-frills moisturizer, this one gets top marks. The non-greasy, ultra-gentle formulation makes is a perfect addition to your acne skin care routine.
