Oxy Maximum Face Wash Review:
Oxy products have been around forever, and they're synonymous with over-the-counter acne treatments. This particular product, Oxy Maximum Face Wash, is a non-foaming OTC cleanser that contains benzoyl peroxide.
Where You Can Buy:
- It's an inexpensive product that is easy to find at your local store.
- Black packaging is so not "girly", so the boys will like it too.
- The face wash is easy to rinse off.
- It leaves the skin feeling oil-free and refreshed.
- It can burn, sting, or leave your face reddened, especially if you have a more sensitive skin type.
- The scent isn't great.
- It's a little bit drying.
Oxy Maximum Face Wash Guide Review:
Who hasn't heard of Oxy products? They've been around since I was a kid (it's not like I'm as old as dirt or anything but still, it's a long time.)
I haven't used any of the Oxy products for a long time, either. But it was on sale for less than five bucks, so it was a good buy. You really don't have to pay an arm and a leg for skin care products. This one contains benzoyl peroxide, the most effective OTC acne treatment available, and at 10% it's the strongest that you can get over the counter.
The usage directions are just like any other face wash: lather and rinse. You won't get a ton of lather from this face wash, though. It's more like a cleansing lotion than a typical soap. So when you emulsify it in your hands, it won't bubble up. It'll take some getting used to if you're used to big, fluffy lather, but you'll still be getting your face clean.
In fact, the cleansing wash feels strong. It stung my face a bit; a couple of my other testers described it as a burn. Not a horrible, but you could feel it. It even left a few faces bright red after use. Luckily, the redness faded after a few minutes. Safe to say, if your skin tends to be on the sensitive side, this face wash might be too strong.
Still, the skin really does feel clean and refreshed after using Oxy Maximum Face Wash. Another plus: it's easy to rinse off. And, because so many acne products dry your skin it seems redundant to mention, but this cleanser did leave my skin feeling dry. If you're super oily you might like this feeling, otherwise a light application of moisturizing lotion and you should be good to go.
One thing I definitely didn't like about this face wash is the scent. It's bland, almost oily-smelling, and reminds me of sunscreen. No one here really loved it, but it bothered me more than others. Even if I loved everything else about the product, the scent was a deal-breaker for me. I just couldn't get past it.
The packaging didn't necessarily appeal to an "old" woman like me, either, but I knew it would be more than acceptable to my teenagers. The bottle is black. There is no pump top. It's easy to squeeze out a dollop and then shut the lid. What else could you ask for?
For a good, basic (and strong) acne cleanser, Oxy Maximum Face Wash is a good option, especially when you consider the price. I'd skip it if you have very delicate, easily irritated skin, though.
And, as always, if you're seeing a dermatologist ask first before adding this product to your skin care shelf.
