Top Resolutions for the New Year

We're just a few days into 2013. How are you doing with your new year's resolution? This year, I am trying to be more productive... which lasted about four days. But still, progress is progress.

I did my own, completely unscientific and informal survey to find the most common new year's resolutions. Productivity wasn't on the list, but those that were are also habits I'd like to develop. Did you make any of these resolutions for yourself? I'm here to encourage you, and to help you see how you can incorporate them into your acne treatment too.

Save more. After pretty much blowing my Christmas spending budget, it's time to buckle down with this one. Shaving a few bucks off purchases here and there can add up over the course of the year. You can save money on your skin care products by being a savvy shopper. Even if you're under a dermatologist's care for your acne, you can save money on your prescription treatments too.

Exercise more. I've got a friend who is super fit. Standing next to her makes me feel frumpy and soft. Definitely got to exercise more. It's not uncommon for people with acne to shy away from certain sports and activities, though. No matter how much you love swimming, you might be reluctant to put on a swimsuit if you have body acne, right? Collectively, people with acne are less likely to exercise than those with clear skin.

Try to find something you love and stick with it. I'm big into yoga and riding horses. I'd love to bike more. I don't care for running at all so I gave myself permission to not do it and not feel guilty. Walking is OK so I do that instead.

What do you love to do, and how do you stay motivated to do it?

Simplify. This one, for me, goes hand in hand with productivity. You can't be productive if you can't find your laptop or cell phone, or your schedule is so jammed full there's literally not enough time in the day. I'm ready to simplify my entire life!

But I'll start off small, like maybe just organizing my skin care cabinet. You can find a few extra minutes into your day by streamlining your treatment routine. A bonus: you'll be more likely to stick with this easier version!

Lose weight. Ok, so I can't help you with this one. But Malia Frey, the About.com Guide to Weight Loss, has a ton of great tips for you. Her 6 Weeks to a Better Body can get you started.
