You've seen microdermabrasion on the menu at the day spa or medi-spa, but you're unsure of exactly what the treatment entails. This animated video explains how a microdermabrasion treatment works.
Microdermabrasion can be used to treat non-inflammatory acne, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and to refine the look of large pores. It isn't the best choice for severe or inflammatory acne, though, because is can aggravate already inflamed skin.
Make sure you tell your therapist about all acne treatment medications you're using. Some, like Retin-A, Differin, etc. make your skin more sensitive to the aggressive exfoliation of the procedure.
Microdermabrasion isn't an option if you're using isotretinoin (formerly sold as Accutane). Most pros will want you to wait until you've been off the drug for several months before a microdermabrasion procedure is done.
