There are many prescription acne medications that are considered combination treatments -- meaning they contain two medications in one treatment.
Some of the more popular include clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide. Clindamycin, an antibiotic, kills the bacteria that causes pimples. And nearly every acne sufferer knows about benzoyl peroxide. It's a common ingredient in many OTC products and prescription medications.
Combination treatments generally work better than each individual medication does alone, because you're treating acne in different ways but at the same time.
Medications that use a combo of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide include:
Although benzoyl peroxide can be found over the counter, clindamycin is not. You'll need a prescription from your doc.
The clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide isn't the only combo medication out there. Available are combinations including erythromycin, Differin (adapalene), Retin-A (tretinoin), for example.
Again, these are all prescription treatments. But if you're not getting results with OTC products, it's probably time to give your doctor a call. There are plenty of acne treatment options out there for you!
