Zapping Zits
Back when I still worked at a great day spa, my absolute favorite piece of equipment was the high frequency machine, or what we liked to call the "zit zapper." During a high frequency treatment, a glass electrode is applied directly to a pimple. The machine emits a mild electric current that is germicidal. The treatment only lasts a few minutes, but acne-causing bacteria are killed, inflammation is reduced, and even monster pimples heal super quickly after treatment.
Now, I don't like to brag, but I was the zit-zapping queen. All the hairdressers in the next suite over would come to me whenever they needed a pimple zapped. During facials, I'd throw in complimentary zaps for my clients. I even headed over to a quiet and closed salon, on Easter Sunday, to just to zap a particularly large and painful pimple that had appeared on my chin. And I'd always thought how great it would be if I could have my very own zapper at home.
So yesterday I was shopping at my local Target store, when something on the shelf caught my eye… the Zeno Acne Clearing Device, otherwise known as your very own, at-home, handheld zit zapper.
Zeno is a small, battery-operated device that works in much the same way my much loved high frequency machine did. You place the small tip directly on the pimple and it heats up, killing the acne-causing bacteria within the pore. While you can feel the warmth, it isn't too hot and definitely is not painful.
Zeno won't work on blackheads and non-inflamed blemishes, and it won't clear up severe cases of acne or cysts. It's probably best for those who have the occasional inflamed pimple (say, for women who breakout around that time of the month, or teens who get intermittent pimples.) Zeno isn't cheap, ranging in price from $149 to over $200. But it is a cool treatment option, at least to a self-proclaimed zapping queen.
