Treating Acne While You're Expecting
"I thought skin was supposed to glow during pregnancy? What happened to yours?" This is what my well-meaning (but brutally honest) sister asked me while I was pregnant with my second child. Many women may experience a wonderful glow, but I surely wasn't one of them. In fact, my acne seemed to get even worse.
Skin changes are common during pregnancy. While some women find their skin looks better than ever, others experience a sudden flare up of acne. Of course, treating acne during pregnancy takes a certain amount of care. Some acne medications, such as Accutane (isotretinoin), should never be taken while pregnant. Expectant moms can use other treatments, like benzoyl peroxide, safely. How can you be sure your acne treatments are safe to use while you're expecting? The best advice: talk to your doctor.
